Cowboys still aren’t saying whether Romo will play

October 18th, 2008 · Comments Off

The Dallas Cowboys still aren’t saying whether Tony Romo will play with a broken pinkie on this throwing hand Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said Friday the team is ready to play with 40-year-old Brad Johnson as the starter. He called Romo a “bonus guy.”

Romo was expected to miss up to a month after he broke his right pinkie when he was sacked on the first play of overtime in last weekend’s 30-24 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Williams served as own agent in Dolphins talks

September 11th, 2008 · Comments Off

Always one to go against the grain, Ricky Williams negotiated his own contract extension with Bill Parcells and the Miami Dolphins, including a verbal agreement regarding a performance bonus.

Williams, 31, said he didn’t ask the Dolphins to forgive the $8.6 million he has owed them since a 2004 ruling by an arbitrator. He said the extension upset his agent, Leigh Steinberg.

“He’s mad because I didn’t talk to him about it,” Williams said Thursday.

Steelers sign Farrior to 5-year, $18.2M deal

August 21st, 2008 · Comments Off

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed linebacker James Farrior to a five-year, $18.2 million contract with a $5 million signing bonus on Thursday.

He’ll make $12.6 million over the first three seasons. The last two years of the deal are meant to lessen the salary cap impact of the deal.

Farrior’s agent, Ralph Cindrich, said the contract is meant to keep the 12-year veteran with the team until he retires.

Farrior played for the New York Jets before joining the Steelers as a free agent in 2002.
